Ujjayanta Palace
This extravagantly designed Ujjayanta Palace spans about a square km (about 800 acres) of area. It is set against sprawling Mughal-styled gardens and tranquil lakes.
A famous landmark, the Ujjayanta palace stands in the heart of Agartala town. It was the royal house till being converted into the state legislature.
The Ujjayanta Palace now plays host to the Assembly sessions. Hence, selected portions of the palace are opened for tourists only when the State Assembly is not in session.
Designed in the Indo-Saracenic style, the Ujjayanta palace was constructed during the time of Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya in 1901.
The other important features of this palace are its three high domes, intricately crafted doors and the creatively curved ceilings. Within the palace, is an lavishly designed and tiled room. The ceiling of this room was crafted by Chinese artisans.
The palace comes to life with the floodlights set on at night.
