Hundreds of pilgrims flock to this sacred temple of the 14 goddesses in Old Agartala – 14 km from the capital city – in July. During this time of the year, the Kharchi festival is organized. Tourists flock to witness the annual boat race organized on the occasion.
The place is also historically significant.
Maharaja Krishna Manikya shifted the capital from Udaipur to this place. He had to do this as the battle between the Tripuris and Shamsher Gazi waged on for a long period.
