Neermahal is the only water palace of eastern India. Neermahal is at a distance of 55 km south from the Agartala.
Built in the fairy tale fashion, Neermahal has been constructed red sand stone and white marble. It was constructed by the British engineering firm, Martin & Burn Co in 1930.
The palace has two wings. The eastern side was used by the security personnel and the servants while the western side known as the ‘Andar Mahal’ was meant specifically by the royal family. An open stage is located amid a beautiful garden. The stage was meant to hold various cultural functions.
Located on an island in the natural water body – Rudrasagar Lake – Neermahal has bridges and turrets besides balconies and pavilions.
Tourists can take a boat ride through the lake. This waterbody is home to exotic flora and fauna like diving cormorants, migratory birds, dragon flies besides the lovely lily pads.
The State Tourism department is planning a light-and-sound show to depict the the rich cultural and historical heritage of Tripura.
