Yuksam was the first capital of this Himalayan kingdom.
The first king of Chogyal of Sikkim ascended the throne at this place in 1641. He was enthroned by three lamas or Buddhist priests.

The road network links Yuksam to not only the districts of Sikkim, West Bengal, Bhutan Border and Nepal Border. All means of road transportation to Yuksam are available from Siliguri, 140 kms away.
The nearest railway station – New Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) – is located about 140 km from Yuksam. So, you can travel to Yuksam from Guwahati in Assam, New Delhi and Kolkata.
The nearest airport – Bagdogra (West Bengal) – is just 140 km from this beautiful place. You can book a flight daily from Kolkata and Delhi.
