Yuksam has a rich and glorious historical heritage.
Yuksam was the first capital of this Himalayan kingdom.
The first king of Chogyal of Sikkim ascended the throne at this place in 1641. He was enthroned by three lamas or Buddhist priests.
Yuksam has a lot of tourist destination spots.

Yuksam is a wonderful combination of nature’s bounty and diversity. Yuksam is surrounded by commanding evergreen mountains,
Yuksam is located on the western side of Sikkim and on the edge of the Khanchenjunga National Park – the largest Protected area in Sikkim.
You can also have a first-hand glimpse of the cultural diversity of this Himalayan state. The people are hospitable.
It is via Yuksam that you will have to proceed to Ney-Pemathang – the Shangri-La.
Moreover, you’ll have to trek through Yuksam if you want to proceed to the base camp of Kanchenjunga or Dzongri.

Yuksam is well connected with the metropolises and other urban locales.
The road network links Yuksam to not only the districts of Sikkim, West Bengal, Bhutan Border and Nepal Border. All means of road transportation to Yuksam are available from Siliguri, 140 kms away.
The nearest railway station – New Jalpaiguri (West Bengal) – is located about 140 km from Yuksam. So, you can travel to Yuksam from Guwahati in Assam, New Delhi and Kolkata.
The nearest airport – Bagdogra (West Bengal) – is just 140 km from this beautiful place. You can book a flight daily from Kolkata and Delhi.

You can stay overnight in the few restaurants and hotels in Yuksam. They are cozy, and cheap. Above all, you can taste the local flavors in these lodging homes.
