SAIHA
In the olden times, the Saiha region was famous for ivory trade.
The majority tribe of the Saiha region is the Mara community.
In the Mara lingo, Ivory is commonly called the ‘elephant tooth’.
In the local parlance, the Mara term ‘Sia’ means elephant while the other term ‘ha’ connotes tooth’.

The Saiha district has 78 villages within two blocks which are under the jurisdiction of two subdivisions.
The headquarters of Saiha district is Saiha town. This town is also the administrative seat of the Mara Autonomous District Council which is one of the three autonomous district councils of the state.
The Saiha district is strategically situated on the Indo-Myanmar border.
The Champhai town is a mercantile centre for the Indian and Myanmarese traders.
BEAUTIFUL SPOTS
The two very popular tourist destination spots in Saiha are the Mt. Kahrie and Mt. Mawma.
The biggest river of Mizoram, Chhimtuipui, is located 378 km from the state’s capital of Aizawl. The primary attractions of the river and its environ are its natural scenery in its splendor and the fresh surroundings.
The Chhimtuipui River is the habitat of the species of many fresh water fishes. This river is also an angler’s paradise.
Two other much sought after tourist destination spots in Mizoram are the Lodaw Wildlife Sanctuary and the Pala Tipo Lake.
Then you can also have an enervated tour of the spiritual town of Pala.
Even Saiha has a varied fare to offer to the discerning tourist besides the other townships like Saikan, Tipa-V, and Phura.
