LAI HARAOBA
Another important festival of Manipur is Lai-Haraoba.
The Lai-Haraoba festival is celebrated in the month of May – after the Cheiraoba festival which falls in April.
The Lai-Haraoba festival is observed in honour of Umang Lai.
Umang Lai is the presiding deity of the sylvan locale of the state.
During the Lai-Haraoba festival, it is customary for men and women to dance in front of the idols of gods and goddesses.
The devotees of Umang Lai also pay their obeisance to the souls and spirits of their ancestors during the Lai Haraoba festival. In this session of the Lai Haraoba festival, the people of Manipur seek eternal blessings of the Almighty and their ancestors.
The followers of Umang Lai seek bountiful harvests and prosperous as well as long and peaceful life.
